In this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know so that you get the most out of our fully customizable Stalks. We will walk you through:
1. Unboxing
2. Preparation and Placement
3. Installation of the Commander
4. Pairing and Setup (Stalks)
5. Replacing the Battery (Stalks)
6. Removal of the Stalks
**Unboxing**
The S3XY Stalks come in three forms: a bundle of two levers with a Commander, a pair without a Commander, and a single lever without a Commander. This article will cover unboxing the bundle box, but the other two options have the same items, excluding the Commander and its accessories.
Inside, you have both Stalks with markings on the bottom of each, telling you whether it’s Left or Right. You also get an additional small box that contains the following items:
- The Commander, which is the brain of the entire operation, also gives you access to unique automation, such as the Automatic Re-engagement of the Autopilot after lane change and Auto-Mutting of the Intelligent Speed Assist.
- The cable that connects the Commander to your Tesla with an additional port allows you to daisy-chain different accessories to your car.
- A pry tool to help with the installation.
- A cleaning wipe to remove any dust or oily spots around the steering wheel column.
- An extra double-sided tape if you ever have to remove the stalks and put them back on.

**Preparation and Placement**
The S3XY Stalks are wireless and don’t require disassembling the steering wheel to install. Instead, they use strong double-sided tape which can withstand cold and hot weather.
Before installing, make sure to precondition the cabin to 21℃, and then take the following steps:
1. Use the wipe we provided to clean the steering wheel column and let it dry for a few minutes. If more polishing is needed, use your favorite cleaning supplies to ensure there are no oily spots where the Stalks go.
2. Place the stalk two millimeters away from the edge of where the gap between the steering wheel and its column to avoid rubbing.
3. Gently press the stalk with one hand and pull upward arrow number 1, removing the plastic seal of the top double-sided tape.
4. Spin the steering wheel to access arrow number 2 and pull it toward you.
5. Press the stalk firmly against the steering wheel column for 5 seconds so the adhesive can create a strong bond.
6. Pull down arrow number 3, which is there to preserve the battery lifespan before you start using the stalk.
7. Then, install Stalk number 2 the same way if you own one.
We recommend you avoid using the stalks for the first 48 hours to ensure the strengthening of the adhesive. Every glue gets stronger with time, so leave it to rest for a couple of days. If you live in a colder climate, keeping the car indoors during that period would be a good idea.

**Installation of the Commander**
The Commander is the hub that links to our S3XY Gadgets via Bluetooth and sends signals to your Tesla. It connects at the diagnostic port, located at the right A-pillar on all newly built Model 3 and Ys, whether your car is a left or right-hand drive. To properly install it, follow these steps:
1. Power off the car using the Main Screen.
2. Pull the passenger seat further back to open up space.
3. Remove the rubber seal all the way to the back of the right door.
4. Using the pry tool, pop open the triangular plastic piece at the side of the glove box. Slide the tool in from the bottom and gently work your way inward until you have enough leverage to remove the piece. If it doesn’t come out, grab it with both hands and shake it slightly to loosen it.
5. After you complete step 4, you will gain access to the main pin that keeps all the wiring tucked behind an L-shaped piece. Using the V-shaped side of the pry tool, grab the end of the main pin and pull it toward you to pop it open. Remove the pin and put it aside, but don’t lose it since you will need it later.
6. Use the pry tool to pop the pins holding the L-shaped piece, starting from the back of the right door. Grab the piece with both hands, carefully lift it up, and put it aside.
7. After completing step 6, you will have access to the wires. Look for the diagnostic port - it’s wide and colored either white or blue, depending on where your model was built. On some models, it could be tucked in further back behind the wiring, but it will be there.
8. Plug the wide male side of our cable into the diagnostic port. The female side will stay free if you ever want to daisy-chain another third-party accessory.
9. Look for the smaller plugs since these will power the Commander. They should be connected to one another.
10. Grab the wire with one hand and use the V side of the pry tool to carefully push the release pin of the male plug and lift it up to disconnect.
11. Then, connect the smaller male side of our cable to the female side of the car.
12. Connect the smaller male side of the car to the female side of our cable.
13. Plug the Commander into the remaining black port of our cable. After you do so, ensure the small LED light on the Commander is flashing green.
14. Neatly tuck in the wires before you start assembling everything back.
15. Place the L-shaped piece back. Make sure the pins are properly aligned before pressing down.
16. Put the main pin back by squishing the round part of it. Once in place, push it in.
17. Put the triangular part back, front side first. Then, press the triangle side against the glove box until it clicks.
18. Return the rubber seal, starting from the back. Ensure everything is properly covered, but be careful not to stretch the seal; instead, follow its natural curve to avoid tears.

**Pairing and Setup**
After the installation, you have to pair the Commander with the S3XY App:
1. Go to the Commander tab located at the bottom of the S3XY App’s home page.
2. Press the Connect New Commander button on the pop-up message. If this message does not appear, go to the Commander settings, press the Remove Commander button, and then start from step 1.
3. While the Commander is connecting, you might get a pop-up message for additional verification. To dismiss it, press twice the right scroll button on the steering wheel and press Continue.
4. After that, at the top of the Commander page, a status called Connected should appear. If not, please reach out to our support team via email [[email protected]]
5. Install any pending updates for the Commander from the Home Page of the S3XY app without leaving the app.
After the Commander is up to date, it’s time to connect the Stalks by following these steps:
1. Go to the Stalks tab at the bottom of the S3XY App.
2. Press the Connect New Stalk button on the pop-up message. If this message does not appear, go to the Stalks settings, press the Remove Stalks button, and then start from step 1.
3. When a verification message appears, press once the side button of the Stalk you are connecting.
4. After establishing a connection, connect your second Stalk (if you own one) by swiping left and repeating steps 1-3.
Once the Stalks are paired to the app, they should automatically connect to the Commander. If that’s not the case, holding the side button for 15 seconds or doing a factory reset should help.
Here is how you can start playing around with the customizations of your S3XY Stalks:
1. Enter the Stalks tab at the bottom of the S3XY app.
2. Inside, you can see the three pre-assigned actions.
3. Press the icon and select your preferred actions from dozens of options.
By scrolling down the Stalk’s page, you will have the option to add up to 3 actions to the lever or button by assigning them to single press, double press, and long press.
Please note that the single-press action will be slightly delayed if you add double or long presses! That’s because the Stalks need 1/3 of a second to recognize which action you want to use before the input is triggered.
That is why we recommend sticking to the single press options if you have preferred features you regularly use on the road, so there is no delay.
Another great feature is that you can select actions based on your current drive state. This means you can have different functions for the same movement depending on whether you are in Park or Drive.

**Replacing the battery**
As we have already mentioned, the S3XY Stalks use a CR2032 battery that can endure over a year of moderate use or 6 months if you really go at it.
The S3XY App will notify you when it’s time to replace the battery so it doesn’t suddenly stop working mid-drive. Here is how to replace the battery quickly and easily:
1. On the bottom of each stalk, you will find a small tray.
2. Pull it down to access the old battery and remove it.
3. Place the new battery. Make sure the positive side is facing upward.
4. Push the tray back into its compartment.
See how you can do it here:

**Removing the Stalks**
To remove the stalks, just follow these steps:
1. Use a blow dryer pointed at the lever's base to soften the glue.
2. Place the pry tool between the stalk and the steering wheel column and gently start working your way as you are pulling the Stalk from the column. Make sure to place a piece of cloth underneath to avoid any scratches.
3. After removing the Stalk, clean up the steering wheel column with a clean wipe or a towel.
If you want to put the stalk back on, remove the double-sided tape you already used and replace it with the additional one we have provided in the box. Then, repeat the preparation and placement process.
